Beaver Creek Birds of Prey DH

Beaver Creek is such a fun DH! Here is some video of my teammate Steve Nyman ripping the 2007 Birds of Prey. Today we had our first training run and it was so fun! The course is a lot different from past years with more turns and some really cool terrain that they have added, and the snow is absolutely perfect. Ill post my run from today as soon as I remember to get the video from my coaches.. I already met to earlier today but forgot... Anyways get fired up and support our team at our only home race of the season!

Lake Louise World Cup

The World Cup ski season is here.  Today was the first DH race of the season at Lake Louise and it is so fun to start racing again.  I forgot what it was like racing a World Cup during the long summer full of training in the gym and quiet on-snow session on remote peaks around the world.  There is nothing quiet about a World Cup haha! It is game time.  Racers from all around the world come together, there are hundreds of crazy fans with cowbells and flags, and it is a totally different atmosphere than training.

I felt really prepared coming into the first race today, but skiing is such a variable sport and all it takes is one little mistake (especially here at Lake Louise) and that one race run is ruined.... That's kind of how the day went for me and all of the US guys.  There is not much snow up here this year, so the preparation of the hill is a lot different than in past years, and they had to inject large sections of the hill with ice because there is so little snow, so the track was very very bumpy and icy, with a lot more terrain than normal.  This made for challenging conditions, and yeah all of us just had too many mistakes.  Bode had a good run finishing 8th, and then Steve Nyman, myself, and Andrew Weibrecht all finished 35th, 36th, and 37th about three tenths of a second out of scoring World Cup points in the top 30.  Then came Tommy Biesemeyer (in his first world cup sporting the Speed Hawk!) finishing 43rd and Marco Sullivan finishing in 54th.  It was a tough day for the team, but we are all looking for redemption tomorrow in the SG!  Wish us luck!

November Super Deep Sleddin HD! Travis Ganong.m4v

Its November 20th, and the first major storm of the season has hit Tahoe leaving 30 inches of snow overnight with another 30 inches promised when we wake up tomorrow! I took the snowmobile out for the first time behind the house and enjoyed choking face shots everywhere I went in the blower powder! With snow like this before Thanksgiving it is setting up to be an awesome La Nina winter! It was great to get in a day like this before I have to leave Tahoe for the winter and start racing!

Winter is here!

Over the last few days I have witnessed the transition from fall to full on winter here in Vail!  At the beginning of our camp here it was t-shirt and flip-flop weather, but now winter is officially here to stay!  We had our first powder day yesterday skiing about 10 inches of blower powder at Copper Mountain on our DH boards!  I rarely free ski on the 215 DH skis, but it was so much fun! You can charge and go so fast on those skis making the blower powder billow up all around while you ski!   Today we have a day off and I woke up to even more snow. Check it out!  (The photos were taken with my phone so the quality is not so good.)

Super G Vail POV Chesty- Travis Ganong

Here is some footage using the GoPro of SG training from today. The angle is a little off, but it is still a new different perspective! Training is going really well and I am getting really fired up for the first World Cup of the season in Lake Louise in two weeks!

Fantasy Ski Racer

My buddy and teammate Steve Nyman has created this new website called FantasySkiRacer.com.  Each week during the World Cup season you can go onto the site and make your "picks" for who you think will get top ten in the race.  Then there is a point system that ranks you against other "fantasy ski racers" based on how accurate your guesses were. You can also create a league amongst your friends.  Its a really cool way to connect the athletes to the fans more! The first slalom of the season is tomorrow in Levi Finland, so go check it out and make your picks!

www.fantasyskiracer.com

  • Fantasy Ski Racer: Connecting Fans with Racers!

This isn't your regular fantasy league. Like the World Cup, every week is different, the slopes are changing and each racer has their strengths and weaknesses. Certain people do better on certain courses. Learn about the courses, get inside information from the racers and compete with the best.

Do your research and find out who is on the top of their game. Create your own league with your friends and/or compete for an overall ranking with others around the world. Follow the Mens and Womens World Cup Tour. Select who you think is going to perform each race and cheer them to the podium.

US Ski Team Vail GoPro Edit..

Skiing!!!! We are skiing! Yesterday was our second day back on snow skiing at Vail. Tommy Ford and I took out some HD GoPro cameras and filmed some of the action. It is so nice to be skiing again. There isn't to much snow but the snowmakers at Vail did a great job getting our training hill all ready! This was the first attempt at filming with these cams, so it was kinof a trail run. Check it out and get excited for winter!!

Sleddin...

This is what sledding should be, and could be one day... a sport that we all love and do, and yeah this is bringing it to a whole new level! Marie and I along with my sister Megan and her husband Jesse built this toboggan track a few winters ago in Alpine Meadows. This is the most fun I have ever had sleddin... Enjoy!!

Halloween... (part two) (night time adventures)

Old Dude, Rocker, Cow-Girl, Peter-Pan, Sultan, Panda, Dinosaur, and a mobster...

So I headed down to Reno for my night time Halloween activities to hang out with my good friend Shane Collins (aka. Peter Pan) and company.  We started off heading to the Nugget for the Teton Gravity Research showing of "Light the Wick".  Best ski movie of the year by far!  Sage killed it in ever shot he was in.  Then we attended a few UNR parties and went on adventures from there... It was a fun night, but the last time that I'll party for a while.  Now its time to really gear up for the season as Lake Louise is only 25 days away!  I can't wait!

Strait out of "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas".  I felt bad for all the Casino regulars who were tripping out seeing a Dinosaur/Lizard (and company) clawing through the slot machines.
This was taken on an escalator!  Crazy I know...
